Apple’s weather app Dark Sky is officially shutting down

Apple acquired the Dark Sky weather app in March 2020, and has since incorporated many of the app’s features into the pre-installed weather app on iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Recently, Apple shared a support document with information about how Dark Sky users can use the pre-installed weather app, which now provides a “specific small area-wide” forecast, including precipitation for the next hour, and daily forecasts for the next 10 days. Hourly forecasts, high-resolution radar maps, and severe weather notifications .

To use the Dark Sky feature in the Weather app, users’ devices must be updated to iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS 13 Ventura. Some features are currently only available in certain countries.

Apple will also close Dark Sky’s API for third-party weather applications on March 31 this year, and launch its own WeatherKit API as a replacement.
