Boeing’s last 747 leaves the factory

Boeing’s 1,574th and final 747 leaves the factory, which will be delivered to Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings after a test flight. Just because the Boeing 747 is out of production doesn’t mean it’s going to disappear from the skies immediately, with the last planes delivered flying for decades. But the Boeing 747 is becoming increasingly rare on commercial flights. United and Delta grounded their 747s ahead of the coronavirus pandemic, while Qantas and British Airways said goodbye to 747s during the 2020 global travel recession. The first Boeing 747 was produced in 1968, first flew in 1969 and entered service in 1970. The Boeing 747 held the record for the world’s most passenger-carrying aircraft for 37 years before the Airbus A380 entered service.
