Book Review: The Life of Politics

This book is a diary written by Guo Shi in 1994.

1. People living in this world: some are weak; some are strong; some need others to set goals, some set goals for others; some need emotions to support life, and some need will to support life. I probably choose to be the latter in every pair of concepts.

Nietzsche’s so-called superman , Chairman Mao’s so-called person who has broken away from vulgar tastes, and Panda’s so-called new human being are not the same.

2. Confucian thought has a reason for its existence, and it cannot be eliminated by human forces. It is not only a system of thought, but also a reflection of a way of life. In Chinese society, people have always emphasized the coordination of the relationship between people from the inner world of people, rather than from the external world. All order, whether political, economic or social, is ultimately a spiritual order. No external order is secure until a spiritual order is formed. This is also the most valuable part of Confucianism. A world cannot be without order, nor without ethical order. Confucianism emphasizes this. The question is not what content to use to construct order, but the need for order itself. Content always has to evolve with history.

This is what Lao Siguang calls the subjectivity of human beings in “New History of Chinese Philosophy”. In the philosophy of conduct, Pang Da legislates for nature by man, relying on people’s absolute moral value judgment , that is, absolute law. The so-called order is the opposite of chaos, that is, negative entropy . In fact, it is the purpose of Pang Da’s emphasis on going out of the circle in the philosophy of conduct. 3. When there are too many people, it is easy to form a dissipative structure, and the power is consumed in this “black hole”. The characteristics of Chinese culture are probably like this. In fact, foreign countries are the same, not as simple as imagined. This is the belief that Pang Da said should be practiced until death. It is deeper than life and longer than life. Life is just the carrier of thought. A life without thought is worthless . The willpower to live out your beliefs is the truly precious part.

5. What is a politician? They should have unswerving beliefs, foresighted vision, indomitable perseverance, open-mindedness, and the ability to see the overall situation, etc. China’s democratic revolution relied on a prominent group of leaders. Need it now.

11. People like us have become accustomed to a life without happiness, that is, a dull life. Without the desire for happiness, there is no pain. Pain often accompanies the pursuit of happiness, not happiness itself. So the question is not happiness itself, but the hope in each person’s subjective state. My question is still: “Why do monks recite sutras?” If this question can be answered, everything will be trivial. It is called peace raising the infinite heaven. Happiness is something that can be desired but not sought, and something that can be sought but not enforced. After practicing for so many years, there is enough space in my heart, and there is no such thing as happiness. Of course, I am not against other people’s pursuit of happiness, because it is impossible for people to live the same life.
