Build your own content timeline with Tweetdeck

I believe that for many small partners, Twitter is not simply a “social” platform, but a “information acquisition” platform. Follow the accounts of various celebrities and institutions to keep abreast of the latest trends in the fields of interest. For example, in the recent hot NFT and Web3.0 communities, a large number of opinion leaders have voiced their voices on Twitter.

However, from the perspective of obtaining information efficiency, the regular Twitter browsing interface is not particularly friendly, there are various advertisements on the timeline, and at the same time, you often find yourself lost in dozens of tabs and search results pages. If you’ve run into a similar problem and want to improve the efficiency of getting information on Twitter, I would highly recommend Tweetdeck .

Tweetdeck is an online tool officially provided by Twitter. It has a modular and highly customized browsing interface. It is not only suitable for professional Twitter operators, but also very suitable for individual users to transform and optimize their information timelines. By comparing the pictures, you can clearly see the difference between the two modes. Tweetdeck can choose between black and white display modes in the settings, I personally prefer the dark mode, which looks more relaxed.

Basic introduction

The most important functions of Tweetdeck compared to the conventional interface are mainly 3 points: automatic refresh , multi-column display and custom modules . Automatic refresh does not require too much explanation, saving the operation and time of frequent refresh. Custom modules can customize the content displayed in each column, for example:

  • I would like to see all of Elon Musk’s tweets or his direct tweets individually. – single user mode
  • I hope to group multiple accounts into one theme and browse them individually, such as: NBA stars, real-time stock market news, and NFT-related information. – Checklist mode
  • I want to track the comments of netizens on the hot events that are happening, such as: WWDC conference, Russia-Ukraine conflict, etc. – search mode

The multi-column display greatly improves screen utilization, allowing us to track these different topics at the same time.

Above is a screenshot of my recent use of Tweetdeck, I placed Tesla AI Day live video on the right via the Vivaldi browser “vertical tile” feature, placed Tweetdeck on the left, and added: “tesla ai day” search results column , “tesla bot” search results column, Elon’s personal content column, and commonly used market information column.

Module selection

In Tweetdeck, you can choose to add a variety of different modules, including,

Content modules: single-user mode, search mode, list mode, popular content, etc.

Functional modules: notification, internal letter, @my, reserved content, etc.

I don’t need to do account operations, so the most commonly used content modules are: search results, single user, and multi-user lists.

Search mode:

Display keyword search results with automatic refresh function to achieve the effect of “live broadcast”. And you can further filter the search results by setting conditions, which include:

  • Filter by tweet type: such as tweets that contain images, videos, GIFs, etc.; or whether to show “Retweeted” content.
  • The release time range of the filtered content, the smallest unit can be accurate to half an hour.
  • Filter by tweet language type, for example: Chinese, English, Japanese, etc.
  • Filter tweets by: Select search results for a specific individual user or group of users.
  • Content Engagement: Shows at least how many likes, retweets, or comments on content.

Single-User Mode & Multi-User Checklist:

The essential difference between these two modes is the number of users to follow, and the filter condition options after selecting the scope of interest are exactly the same. In these two modules, you can also set filter conditions, including:

  • Filter by tweet type: such as tweets that contain images, videos, GIFs, etc.; or whether to show “Retweeted” content.
  • Keyword Filtering: Display or exclude content containing specified keywords.
  • User Filtering: Content posted by a specified user or content @ a specific user.

Tracking on Tweetdeck, whether it’s a single user or a list, doesn’t require a following account. This is very considerate and helps me distinguish between different usage scenarios. I removed a large number of “news” accounts from the watch list and put them in the Tweetdeck list. Daily browsing on the mobile phone will not be swiped, and I will pay more attention to it. The content, sitting in front of the computer can track and view these complex information.

Lists created in Tweetdeck can be optionally set as public or private lists, and this list will also be synced to the list button on the left side of the general interface.

Module settings:

The “media display size” can be set separately in these content modules, which can be roughly understood as the height of each piece of content in the module. And whether to send a notification in the form of a “sound” or “desktop notification” to notify that the content of interest has been updated.

Tweetdeck is a simple, yet powerful tool, which has brought me a lot of convenience, and I hope to share it with you to create a content module that suits you.

This year, Twitter officially removed the desktop client software of Tweetdeck, and only provides a web version. If you want to install an independent client on your computer, you can use Tweeten . There are Windows and Mac versions, and based on Tweetdeck, it provides more functions.
