Caltech demonstrates space solar power technology

SpaceX completed its first launch in 2023 on January 3, carrying out the Transporter-6 mission, one of the loads is Caltech’s Momentus Vigoride, which demonstrates space solar power generation technology, collects solar energy in space and then wirelessly sends power back to the ground .
Space solar power offers a method of generating electricity from the nearly unlimited solar energy of outer space, where it is unaffected by day and night, cloud cover and seasonal cycles. The space solar power generator prototype carried by Momentus Vigoride weighs 50 kilograms. It will perform three experiments to test the key technologies of the space solar energy project: a deployable modular structure that will eventually form a kilometer-scale space power station; Efficiency of a photovoltaic cell; array of microwave power transmitters demonstrating wireless transfer of power.
