Canada’s 5G network will not use Huawei and ZTE equipment

Canada said on Thursday it would ban equipment made by Huawei and ZTE from its 5G mobile network. Canada has become the last member of the Five Eyes alliance to scrutinize the use of Chinese-made 5G communications equipment. The Five Eyes alliance is an intelligence-sharing network of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, all of which are native English speakers and allies. 5G networks will be the foundation for self-driving cars and other IoT devices. The Canadian government said telecommunications companies in the country that currently use Huawei equipment must exit by the end of 2027 without compensation, chief among them BCE and Telus.
