Thirty years of refining:
“Abandoned Sites in the Seventeenth Century” started from the misreading of Zhang Dai’s “Preface to Dreams” thirty years ago. Under the temptation of Zhang Tao’an’s words, he entered an immersive late Ming roaming without a clear goal. The journey finally ended in 2022. Practice, design, typesetting and publishing by myself, and turn it into a book.
“Between the original work and the misreading, it is a long road to reincarnation of a moving work.”
The famous late Ming memoir “Tao’an Meng Yi”, the eight volumes we see today, is not the original appearance written by the author Zhang Dai in the “Meng Yi Xu” in the state of repentance, but the author’s death. “Abandoned Sites in the Seventeenth Century”, based on the clues in the versions of Zhang Dai’s works that have been unearthed in recent years, attempts to approach the real situation of Zhang Dai’s “thinking about the past, recalling the book, holding to the Buddha, and repenting one by one”, and then from multiple perspectives Presenting another picture engraved by Zhang Dai, and taking his persistence as the origin, the characters, legends, and stories related to the upstream, side-by-side, and downstream are constructed to construct a clear emotional context, which is carved out for a book in the thousand-year history The depth of the text.
…… Authors, scribes, engravers, collectors, the creation of writing in the classical era can only be passed down to modern times by virtue of this lineage, and they are all legends. “Informed imagination” refers to the practice of “17th Century Abandoned Sites”, which is used freely to enrich the context, scene, and scene in the context of “Abandoned Sites in the Seventeenth Century” after researching and reading the historical materials and text versions, and is loyal to the rationality of the historical materials. Sex rather than the stereotyped dramatic logic of modernity versus antiquity, even if it is overdone to “fantasy”, it is still in the range of “real” feeling. And this real moment in history is the realm of life to communicate with the classics.
