Chrome introduces energy-saving and memory-saving modes

The latest version of Chrome adds two performance settings: Memory Saver and Energy Saver. Browsers typically consume a lot of memory, and Chrome has been criticized in the past for its high memory usage. The new Memory Saver can save up to 30% of memory by putting inactive tabs into sleep mode. If the user revisits the tab will reload. Energy Saver limits the background activity of websites and the visual effects of animated videos when the laptop’s battery level drops below 20%. Hibernating inactive tabs was first introduced by Microsoft in its Edge browser, with the software giant announcing that it hibernated 1.38 billion tabs in September, an 83% reduction in memory per tab compared to normal levels. Edge and Chrome are based on the same Chromium open-source browser.
