Entity-listed drone maker DJI is lobbying the U.S. Congress to try to block a bill that would bar the federal government from procuring its drones. DJI has hired two lobbying firms—Han Yu International Law Firm and Vogel Group—to persuade members of Congress not to support the American Safe Drone Act (ASDA), which bars the U.S. government from buying Chinese companies or other Procurement of drones by companies deemed a threat to national security. DJI has spent nearly $4 million on lobbying since 2018, according to OpenSecrets. The company’s U.S. market share has fallen from 62% in 2020 to 50% in 2021. DJI’s lobbyists argue that the company’s drones are more advanced, cheaper and more useful to law enforcement agencies.
