Does family origin matter?

A few days ago, I heard Professor Zhang Weihong of Sun Yat-sen University talk about Wang Yangming. She summed up Wang Yangming’s success in the following points.

  1. Ambition (pattern): what is the first thing in life;
  2. Wisdom: Versatile, capture Chen Haozhi alive, see Zhang Yong, and handle the funeral;
  3. Virtue (benevolence): uprising army, responding to every call, not greedy for fame;
  4. Kung Fu (Concentration): Don’t be distracted, break your heart;
  5. Opportunity: Some people appreciate, some people follow, some people help;
  6. Contribution: Create conscience and change the style of study.

Personally, I think, I should add one more, his family background. According to the information found, Wang Yangming was born in a prominent family in Yuyao County, Shaoxing Prefecture, Zhejiang Province. His father Wang Hua was the champion in the 17th year of Chenghua (1481), and was an official in the Ministry of Officials in Nanjing.

In other words, Wang Yangming is a full second-generation official. Congenital genetics are good, acquired family cultivation conditions are good.

Actually this is not an exception. If the innate genes are average – just like all living beings, and the acquired environment is also average, it is naturally more difficult to make achievements and build a career.

Reading the biography of the great man written by Mr. Fu Gaoyi of Harvard University, the English version of the original book and the Chinese version of the Chinese University of Hong Kong both wrote that when D was young, his father was the chief of the local county police station.

There is another little thing that shows how important family background is. D went to study in France and failed the French test. In the end, his father tried to pass it. It’s just that this detail has been revised in the Triple Press edition.

I went to visit M’s former residence during the Spring Festival this year, and found that his former residence is also very large. Even today, few people have such living conditions, which shows that his family’s family economy is very good.

When I went to his elementary school, I saw that M’s lunch box was four or five stories high. His mother not only brought him meals, but also asked him to bring some meals to other poor children, and he became a leader in the children’s hearts since he was a child. This also shows that the relative wealth of his family gives M the energy and time to worry about the world.

Other poor children may be worried, where to go to herd cattle after school? There are still so many unfinished farm work at home. If you want to study and become a talent, it is easier said than done.

Judging from the growth environment and subsequent achievements of these great people, it shows that a good family background is a necessary condition for a person to become a talent.

Thinking of this, most of us have nothing to do in our lives, and we may find reasons to comfort ourselves. After all, our family background is too ordinary, so why not work hard?
