Three electricians were seriously injured in an “electrical accident” at a Google data center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The accident occurred at 11:59 a.m. local time Monday when three electricians suffered an arc flash (electrical explosion) while working at a substation near the data center building, resulting in three serious burns. One was taken by helicopter to the nearest Nebraska Medical Centre, while the remaining two were transported by ambulance. Google has 14 data centers in the United States. Company spokesman Devon Smiley said they were aware of the accident and would cooperate with authorities in a thorough investigation and provide necessary assistance. The accident occurred when Google’s website was temporarily down globally.
