EU countries and lawmakers plan to discuss next Tuesday, June 7, Apple’s strongly opposed universal charging port proposal, which would require phones, headphones and tablets to use the same charging port to reduce e-waste. The European Union’s proposal for a common charging port comes more than a decade ago after iPhone and Android users complained about using different chargers. Currently Android devices use a USB-C port for charging, while Apple uses a proprietary Lightning connector. The Universal Charging Port proposal will feature a USB-C port, so it will be Apple who will be most affected. A final agreement is expected at next Tuesday’s meeting.
