A building in Zaporozhye, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant , exploded on Friday, with Ukraine and Russia accusing each other of shelling . The Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was occupied by Russia in early March, and Russia bombed parts of the building during the attack, causing severe damage . In the latest incident, Ukraine’s state-owned nuclear power operator Energoatom said Russian shelling hit in and around the nuclear facility, damaging a water intake and cutting off electricity and water to much of the city of Enerhodar. Three shells directly hit the site of the nuclear power plant, one of which was close to a power unit of the nuclear reactor. Energoatom said Saturday that the plant continued to operate and that crews continued to work. Ukrainian prosecutors are investigating the accident. The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency warned on Tuesday that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was out of control and that every principle of nuclear safety was violated.
