A few days ago, I planned to go to Hong Kong to open a HSBC card with my friends, and then stay there for two days.

some things to prepare

  1. ID card, Hong Kong and Macau passport
  2. If you want to enable roaming on your mobile phone number, you can turn off the Internet, but you have to turn it on. If you don’t turn on roaming, the signal will be lost. You need to go to the business hall to turn on the roaming function in advance.
  3. UK socket adapter
  4. Alipay

Set off

We fly from Hangzhou to Shenzhen, and then take the airport bus to Hong Kong. It costs 120.

You can pick up some water at the airport, and there is nowhere to buy water afterwards. Water in Hong Kong is extremely expensive.

There are two ends to the journey. First, we are sent to Shenzhen Bay for entry and exit. After exiting the country, we come to Hong Kong to wait in line for the bus.

There will be multiple security checks when exiting and entering Hong Kong, and the need to declare a health code can be completed in advance, and the work of filling out forms can be saved.

When entering Hong Kong, don’t forget to take the small white slip.

The bus took us to Diamond Hill MRT station. After getting off the station, you can take the subway, or you can go to a nearby shopping mall/roadside to find a 711 convenience store to buy a local card. Internet access is cheaper than roaming.

It is said that you can use Octopus on the subway, and you can open it in Apple Pay. It costs 50 Hong Kong dollars to open the card, and the minimum recharge is 100 Hong Kong dollars at a time, which is a bit tricky. It takes half a year to withdraw the card without charging a handling fee.

It is recommended to use Alipay. There is also a Hong Kong bus code in Alipay, which can be used just like scanning.

Consumption

Most of the consumption in Hong Kong can be paid with Octopus, but I recommend using Alipay. After entering Alipay, you need to use the diamond membership privileges to upgrade the exchange rate conversion. After the upgrade, rmb to Hong Kong dollars is very low. (I realized I was crying before I left), WeChat payment is still relatively high.

hotel

Accommodation in Hong Kong is very expensive. We stayed at 700 a night. The space is very small, only about 10 square meters, so we can only survive in the cracks. If you only stay in Hong Kong for a day or two, it is recommended to arrange accommodation in Shenzhen and then enter Hong Kong in the morning. The endorsement can be signed more than once.

set up an account

ZA BANK

When entering Hong Kong, as long as you connect to the Hong Kong Internet, you can open an account directly in the za bank app.

The required materials include ID card, Hong Kong and Macau Pass, a mainland mobile phone number capable of receiving text messages, a record of entering Hong Kong within three months issued by the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau, and verification of the mainland bank debit card number bound to the mainland mobile phone number.

After submitting the above materials according to the process, the account opening can be completed in 5 minutes.

The physical card needs to be mailed to an address in the mainland, and 25 HKD is required to make the card.

ZA BANK supports binding to Stripe.

ANT BANK

Ant Bank (Hong Kong) is a relatively new bank, and the process is longer than that of ZA BANK. It is also a submission of materials. I waited for a day before applying.

I feel that virtual banks are similar, and Ant Bank is relatively low and does not have a physical card. I can’t get into Apple Pay, it doesn’t matter if I open it or not. Cannot collect cards.

ANT BANK supports binding to Stripe.

HSBC

We went to the Pioneer Center branch of HSBC Bank, because it was a weekday, and there were not many people, so we didn’t go too early, we got a number, and we finished in the morning.

Materials needed:

  • ID cards, Hong Kong and Macau permits, entry IOUs.
  • Proof of address (optional, if the address is the same as that of the ID card, it is not needed, and you will be asked if you still live at the address of the ID card)

Questions that will be asked:

If necessary, we may ask you to provide the following information:

  • Country of Citizenship
  • Occupational status including job title, employer/company and monthly income
  • account purpose
  • Reasons for opening an account in Hong Kong
  • Primary and continuing sources of wealth and/or income
  • Estimated account activity, such as transaction amount and frequency
  • Source of funds for account opening
  • will use the service type
  • Jurisdiction of residence (i.e. the place where the applicant is liable to pay taxes due to his resident status) and tax identification number or equivalent identification number (tax identification number)
  • If you have a contributor who provides regular payments to your account: the contributor’s full name in English, date of birth, nationality held and place of residence.

Under normal circumstances, it takes about half an hour to complete the process. The branch I handled happened to be out of cards, so I didn’t want it. The debit card of mastercard needs to be applied in the app and mailed to the filled address.

flow

The domestic data roaming limit is ¥30 per day, and it is cheaper to buy a one-day or several-day overseas data package. But what is more tricky is that if the data package you bought in the afternoon is used in Hong Kong, it will be enabled.

It is recommended to buy a local card. You can buy a card in 7-eleven convenience stores that can be seen everywhere. There are two kinds of cards, one is China Mobile, and the other is clubsim. China Mobile needs to go to the business hall to activate, which is also relatively cheap. The other is that it is very convenient to activate in the app. It is recommended to buy this card if you spend a few Hong Kong dollars every year to keep your account number. But when I went, this card was difficult to buy, and several convenience stores were sold out.

If you take the high-speed rail to West Kowloon Station, you can buy it at a convenience store after entering the station. Of course, data roaming still needs to be enabled, which may be required for entry. There’s no signal if you don’t roam.

FOOD

It costs ¥100 to eat anything, and only McDonald’s is similar to the domestic price. ¥40 for a full tube.
