Whenever I see or write some dry content, I always see this comment in the comment area: “Go to my favorites and eat ashes.”
Although this is more of a joke, most of the time, we actually do it – collect them, but really let them eat ashes.
Just like when I first owned the network disk, I saved too much content, including a lot now, but most of the content is lying in the network disk and eating ashes. Until now, there are still a lot of content. Not opened by me.
So many times, although we do the action of “collecting”, it does not mean that these collected things will be helpful to us, and it does not mean that we have learned it.
So I think, from the perspective of our growth, we need to let the content we collect give full play to its value, otherwise, our behavior will not only mean nothing to us, but also increase our psychological burden—— Because we haven’t really used it and learned it, we must be under a lot of pressure inside.
Stop letting your favorites go to waste, we need to act now.
Collection tools we usually use
In the past few years of my study and growth, I have also come into contact with some tools that can be used as collections, which are probably as follows.
The first type: favorites from the media platform. For example, Zhihu, Xiaohongshu, etc. have their own collection functions. The collection method is also very simple, just one click.
The second: the collection function that comes with WeChat. It is also a very practical function. Not only can you collect WeChat articles, but you can also add various notes and so on.
The third type: the collection function of the document tool. For example, Tencent documents, Jinshan documents, graphite documents, etc., can also allow us to collect a lot of content.
The fourth: the collection function of note-taking software. For example, the clip function of Evernote and the save page function of Notion can help you to collect more web pages.
Fifth: Web bookmarks. The bookmark function that comes with the browser can help us collect many websites.
The sixth type: network disk. As I said at the beginning, I also have too much content in my personal network disk, various documents, audios, videos, pictures, etc.
Seventh: hard disk. For example, computer hard disks, mobile hard disks, U disks, etc., these are also commonly used collection tools, but to save large content on the Internet, it takes time to download.
Of course, there are still many tools that can be used as collections, so I won’t say more. What I want to say is that there are so many tools that we can collect. It is not impossible to collect, but if we are not careful, we will fall into the trap of collecting and become a “collector”, and it is difficult to collect content into something that you can use.
Why do we habitually collect?
So why do we habitually collect?
Personally, I don’t think it’s a behavioral problem, it’s an inner problem. Next, I answer this question from my personal past collection experiences and mental activities.
First, the collection is to relieve the anxiety of lack of knowledge.
In the past, my knowledge was very poor, because when I was in school, my studies were average, and I didn’t read any extracurricular books, and I didn’t have any skills that I could master. Although I also tried to pass some tests when I was in college certificate, but all ended in failure.
Even if we started writing and reading six years ago, knowledge is not something that can be loaded into our head at once, and requires us to digest and absorb it for a long time. So, my knowledge is very little, so, I am also very anxious.
So in the past period of time, I have also been desperately collecting, I always feel that it will be useful to myself. But this kind of behavior is only to relieve his anxiety, but it has no effect.
Second, deceive yourself, collect it as if you learned it yourself.
I don’t know if you will feel this way. When you collect a piece of knowledge or buy a book, it seems that you have learned it, and you will be very happy. However, after we have collected or bought books, we will no longer study or read, and we will also make many excuses for ourselves, the most common being “wait for time to study”.
This is an act of self-deception. Collecting really does not mean learning. Collecting just means that a certain knowledge is already within our reach, but if we really want to transform it into our own knowledge, we need to calm down to learn and absorb.
Third, think that if you collect it, you will definitely learn.
We also have an attitude, that is, we feel that if we collect it, we will definitely learn it. For example, today I collected a document about a certain skill learning, I will directly collect it, and then tell myself that I will definitely learn it when I have time.
However, in reality, as mentioned in the second point, we make excuses too much for ourselves, such as “busy at work”, “have an appointment”, “have something to do”, etc. In the end, “will definitely learn ” becomes “never learn”.
When we understand our inner thoughts, we need to make changes to these psychology to solve the problem of “favorites eat ashes”.
How to solve the problem of collecting ashes?
I have summarized five aspects to solve the problem of collecting ashes together with you.
First, re-establish awareness of collections.
If you also have the above three kinds of psychology, then you need to re-establish the cognition of collection with me. We need to understand the following things:
- Collections cannot relieve the anxiety of lack of knowledge, but it will increase their anxiety;
- Collection does not mean that we learn it by ourselves, which requires us to process, learn and digest this knowledge;
- Collecting it does not mean that you will learn it. This requires us to do a good job in personal management, and we must let ourselves do what we say and never delay;
- Collections will not meet any of our psychological needs, but will only increase our psychological pressure due to information overload.
Second, strictly filter the content of the collection.
Not all content is worthy of our collection. We need to establish a standard for our collection. We can start from the following three aspects:
Avoid repetition – this is the most basic standard, repeated content will cause information to accumulate, and it will not mean much to us;
Content quality – we must also learn to distinguish the quality of the content, read more, study more, and resolutely abandon inferior content;
Self-needs – If you have no needs, even if the quality of the content is good, it is not recommended to collect, it will only increase your burden.
When we do a good job of screening, we will find that there is not much content that is really worthy of our collection.
Third, learn to classify and collect content.
Of course, we also have too many collections. Especially in the early stage of our growth and learning, we have insufficient awareness of many things, and it is difficult to make accurate judgments. So what should we do?
The best way is to do a good job of classification, such as putting together language skills, putting together computer skills, putting together marketing content, etc. This initial classification will also reduce our subsequent sorting and processing work. .
Also, if we stack everything together, we get a feeling of clutter, like seeing your own cluttered room, will you still be in the mood to tidy up?
Fourth, set a deadline for new collections.
We should also set a deadline for our new collection, and within a day or a few days after we collect it, we must deal with it, and the way to deal with it must be to clear it from the collection.
In fact, in our work and life, we also need such settings. For example, when we buy a new book, we should also set a deadline for ourselves, and we must finish reading it within the deadline, otherwise, it is very likely that we will not touch it again. .
Therefore, learning to set deadlines can also solve your procrastination problem to a certain extent.
Fifth, regularly clean up favorites.
If there are a lot of favorites, we also need to clean up the favorites regularly to prevent some content that we forget because of lack of time. Just like our room, we should also regularly clean up some unwanted things, which is also a way of doing subtraction for our life.
write at the end
Favorites are originally a good behavior, but we need to turn these things into our own knowledge or be able to really help ourselves, otherwise, if we click on the behavior of favorites, it will have no meaning to ourselves. Hope each of us takes our favorites seriously.
Come on, everyone~
