According to a Reuters report on the 1st, Nigerian Civil Aviation Minister Sirika said that as Nigeria plans to expand the number of aircraft owned by Nigerian Airlines to 30 around 2025, the country will consider buying China-made C919 large passenger aircraft.

Sirika, who attended the ICAO General Assembly in Montreal, Canada, said in an interview with Reuters on the 1st that Nigerian Airlines will use Airbus and Boeing aircraft, but is also willing to consider China-made C919 large passenger aircraft. “We hadn’t considered the C919 before, but if it’s as good as any other aircraft, why not?” he said.

On September 29, the C919 large passenger aircraft received a type certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China after completing all the airworthiness certification work. The first aircraft will be delivered by the end of 2022.

“China and Nigeria have a very sincere, friendly and mutually beneficial relationship,” Sirika said. As Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria is one of the main importers of Chinese goods, with imports worth $23 billion in 2021, Reuters said.

According to Reuters, Nigeria’s relatively backward transportation and power network has long hindered the country’s economic growth, but Silika said Nigeria is developing an aviation industry, and its current level of air transport is higher than before the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia.
