[TechWeb] On July 15th, according to foreign media reports, Tesla was approved to sell the Model Y trial-produced at its Berlin Gigafactory.

It is reported that the Berlin Gigafactory is Tesla’s fourth Gigafactory, which opened on March 22 this year and currently only produces Model Y.

Before Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory received final approval to produce cars, the company received preliminary approval to produce more than 2,000 vehicles built for testing purposes and initially expected to be used internally or scrapped.

But a recent filing from Tesla shows that the company wants to sell some early-production Model Ys to customers if they are of “good” quality.

The Brandenburg State Environment Office (LfU), the approval agency in charge of the matter, said Tesla would not violate any regulations if it sold a good-quality early-production Model Y to end customers.

Tesla commented that the local government did not allow the sale of the cars, saying it would be forced to scrap hundreds of vehicles. On June 11, Tesla sent a letter to the state of Brandenburg saying some vehicles had been disposed of, while others were being used for “various testing purposes.”

It’s unclear whether Tesla will try to sell these Model Y preproduction vehicles at full price, or sell them at a slight discount, since they may not be up to par.

It is reported that Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory has suspended vehicle production for 12 days (July 11-July 22) starting this week to carry out upgrades to increase factory output.

Earlier, foreign media reported that during the shutdown period, the factory’s production process will be adjusted. After the factory’s production process has been optimized, the factory will restart three shifts, and the body will only need to stay in each production hall for 45 seconds, instead of the previous 90 seconds.
