Germany to keep two of the remaining three nuclear power plants until April next year

To prevent winter energy shortages, the German government plans to keep two of the remaining three nuclear power plants running until mid-April next year . Economy and Energy Minister Robert Habeck said Isar 2 in Bavaria and Neckarwestheim in Stuttgart would run until next year. The third nuclear power plant, Emsland in Lower Saxony, remains on schedule to close at the end of the year. Habeck said stress tests by French nuclear power suppliers showed power shortages could be worse than expected this winter. Germany is struggling to make sure it has enough electricity to keep warm this winter as gas supplies from Russia dwindle due to the war in Ukraine.
