Google announced on Friday that it is offering end-to-end encryption—what Google calls Gmail CSE—to some Gmail users. Once enabled, the email body, attachments, and embedded images will be encrypted by the client’s browser before being transmitted and stored on the network disk, and the Google server will not be able to obtain the encryption key, so it will not be able to decrypt it. Email headers, timestamps, and recipient lists are not encrypted. The feature is currently available to Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, or Education Standard customers who can apply for the Gmail CSE beta. This feature will not be available to ordinary users for the time being.
