Faced with growing regulatory pressure, the Google Play store has begun testing alternative payment systems . Epic Games has sued Apple over disagreements over payment methods in the past few years, South Korea has legislation requiring alternative payments, the EU’s Digital Markets Act seeks to limit the power of tech giants, and regulators in India and Australia are both investigating Google’s dominance of the mobile market. Alternative payments tested by Google cover in-app purchases and subscription services. The search giant said alternative payments would operate in regions it faces strong regulation, including the European Union, Australia, India, Indonesia and Japan.
