GOV.UK removes jQuery to improve performance

jQuery is a set of cross-browser JavaScript libraries for simplifying operations between HTML and JavaScript. jQuery is one of the most widely used JS libraries, with data showing that over 80% of mobile web pages will use it in 2021. jQuery was born 15 years ago, and today’s JS can do everything jQuery can, so is it necessary to use jQuery today? The UK government website GOV.UK said no. It removed the jQuery library in March to streamline the site and make it accessible to everyone. The results show that the website reduces the front-end processing time as a whole, and improves the access performance for users with slower devices and network speeds.
