Hackers who hacked into Medibank demand $10 million ransom

Australian insurer Medibank confirmed last month that hackers had accessed the personal information and some claims data of all of its customers, including all of its international student clients, in a recent ransomware attack. Medibank is one of Australia’s largest private health insurance companies. Hackers issued a statement on the dark web on Thursday, demanding a ransom of $1 per customer, affecting a total of 9.7 million users, and the ransom will be close to $10 million. Medibank CEO David Koczkar cursed the hacker’s actions as shameful, while again apologizing to customers for refusing to pay the ransom.
