As of 10:30 today, the post has 191 pages and over 15,000 comments. Huawei employees bid farewell to Ding Yun under the obituary, and some employees left messages such as “lost a handsome man”, “heaven is jealous of talents” and so on. These words express the condolences and reluctance of Huawei employees to Ding Yun.

For the unfortunate death of Ding Yun, Yu Weihua, chairman and founder of Huayou Association, also issued a commemoration. Yu Weihua said that Ding Yun loves running and work, and has a very high status in Huawei. It is very sad to die young. According to his article, Ding Yun did not wake up again because of heart problems after running 28 kilometers.

Previously, according to the data frontline from Huawei, Ding Yun is keen on long-distance running such as marathon every day, “almost all the rest time is spent on running”.

Ding Yun was born in 1969 and graduated from Southeast University with a master’s degree. He joined Huawei in 1996 and has served as product line president, president of the global solution sales department, president of global marketing, and president of products and solutions. He is currently the vice chairman of the company’s board of supervisors, the director of the general cadre department, the president of the enterprise BG, and the president of the operator BG.

Yu Weihua remembers that in 1996, he served as the deputy chief engineer of the commercial network switch department of Huawei’s switch market department. Ding Yun came from ZTE at that time and graduated from Southeast University, one year older than Yu Weihua. “In that year, the two of us worked together in a project team to install Huawei’s first C&C08 commercial network switch. The project team leader was Zhang Shunmao. Park Building 1.”

From the perspective of organizational structure, Huawei is currently divided into three major sectors: operators, enterprises, and consumers. Ding Yun is in charge of the second – the two major sectors of operators and enterprises, and is called “one of Huawei’s successors” by the outside world.

A Huawei insider told Value Planet, “The entire big module of the operator BG was built by Ding Yun. He is a very capable and simple person.”

In comparison, another Huawei executive, Yu Chengdong, is more familiar to the public, and his mobile phone and car business is also closely related to consumers. In the opinion of another Huawei insider, this is also very reasonable. After all, automobiles represents the future.

But he also told Value Planet, even so, from the perspective of Huawei’s origin and history, its operator business is the core, and the people in charge of operator business are generally more senior. In fact, “Ding Yun is half of the R&D team. The person in charge, he actually has more power and qualifications than Yu Chengdong, and is one of the company’s successors.”

Within Huawei, Ding Yun’s improvement rate is relatively fast. Many Huawei employees have commented on him. This person has a good reputation, is also very good, and is a very practical supervisor.

A Huawei insider who has held two meetings with him revealed that from his speech at the meeting, he is indeed quite pragmatic, “The other point is that the boss (Ren Zhengfei) likes him very much. In the boss’s eyes, he belongs to the youth. Talented.”

According to Huawei’s financial report, in the first half of 2022, the business revenue of enterprises managed by Ding Yun was 54.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 27.5%; the operator’s business revenue was 142.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.2%.

Due to his long-term engagement in enterprise business and operator business, Ding Yun is not well-known at the public level, but he is a well-known executive in the industry and is often active in conferences and exhibitions on topics such as 5G, operators, and digital transformation. After the news of his death spread, many people in the industry expressed their shock and condolences on social media. Some media people bluntly said that this was a “major loss to the communications industry”.

Ding Yun’s last public appearance was at the Huawei Connect Conference 2022 held on September 20 this year, when he delivered a keynote speech on “Deepening the Scene to Create Value and Find Technology for the Industry”. Ding Yun mentioned at the time that under the impact of multiple uncertain factors, deepening digital transformation is the greatest certainty for enterprise development. Huawei provides “connection + computing + cloud” to help customers deepen digital transformation, release digital productivity, and promote “for the scene”. Find the last mile of technology”.

Regarding his death, Yu Weihua sighed: “We are about the same age, and we can talk more easily… After leaving Huawei in 2001, we basically did not communicate with each other. I still thought that when he retired that day, we could get together again. I’ll never see you again. It’s such a shame that Huawei has lost a general.”

From the perspective of the above-mentioned Huawei people who had a meeting with Ding Yun, Ding Yun’s death is indeed regrettable and regrettable, but it will not have much impact on Huawei as a whole. After all, Huawei has a lot of talents. There is a chance to be promoted.”
