India recently announced a new cybersecurity regulation, Cyber Security Directions, requiring VPS providers, cloud service providers, VPN providers, virtual asset service providers, virtual asset trading providers, wallet providers and government organizations to send customer names, emails Addresses, IP addresses, known customer records and financial transactions are stored for five years. India says VPN companies unwilling to comply with data retention rules should quit the Indian market. The upshot is that some VPN providers did vote with their feet to announce that they would withdraw from the Indian market. The rule was originally scheduled to go into effect at the end of June, but now India’s computer emergency team announced on Monday night that the implementation of the new rules has been delayed until September 25, giving VPN providers and cloud service providers an extra three months to decide whether to comply with the new rules.
