Italy is the latest country to issue a warning against the use of Google Analytics. Italian regulators have found that some web publishers are not complying with EU data protection rules on the use of Google Analytics because user data is being transferred to the US, which lacks EU-equivalent protection of user information. User information collected by Google Analytics, including device IP address, browser information, operating system, screen resolution, language preference, and the date and time of website visits, is transferred to the United States. Italian regulators have given sites 90 days to resolve violations and have warned other local sites using Google Analytics to check for compliance issues. Instead of banning the use of Google Analytics, Italy requires sites using the analytics tool to modify the default settings to prohibit the transfer of user information to the United States.
