On August 8, Jidu Automobile held the first ecological partner conference at its headquarters in Jiading, Shanghai. Xia Yiping, CEO of Jidu Automobile, disclosed the new progress of Jidu Automobile.
Xia Yiping said that Jidu Auto will soon release a limited edition of the first mass-produced car robot model, and will open pre-orders at the same time. It is expected to be officially delivered in the second half of 2023. The exterior design of the second model of Jidu will be unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show at the end of 2022, and deliveries are expected to begin in 2024.
In terms of network construction, Jidu Automobile’s first brand experience center will open in Shanghai within this year, and the first batch of stores are planned to enter 46 cities in China in 2023, and the nationwide distribution of the sales network will be preliminarily completed. In addition, Xia Yiping announced that in 2028, Jidu Auto will have the ability to deliver 800,000 automotive robots throughout the year.
Jidu Auto is an automotive robotics startup founded by Baidu and strategically invested by Geely. The company was officially established in March 2021, with a shareholding ratio of 60:40 and a registered capital of 2 billion yuan. It has announced that it plans to invest 50 billion yuan in the production of smart electric vehicles within five years from 2021.
China’s local technology giants have entered the auto manufacturing industry in different ways. Huawei insists on “not building cars” and cooperates with BAIC, Changan, Dongfeng Xiaokang and other companies as a supplier; Xiaomi chairman Lei Jun chose “ALL IN”, “The last time to start a business in my life”, and personally founded Xiaomi Auto; Baidu, through cross-border cooperation and with the help of Geely Auto’s vast structure, builds automotive robot products, with “high-end intelligence” as its core competitiveness.
Xia Yiping said that the first automotive robot product to be mass-produced and delivered by Jidu Auto in 2023 will have the industry’s best experience of “door-to-door, start-to-stop” high-level autonomous driving capabilities during the same period.
“The autonomous driving of other companies is more of a future, promising subsequent upgrades to achieve high-level autonomous driving capabilities, but we will be ‘what you see is what you get’.” An insider of Jidu Automobile said.
At this eco-partner conference, Jidu Motors also showed a dual headquarters structure in Beijing and Shanghai. Its Shanghai Jiading headquarters was just opened on August 5, with a construction area of nearly 20,000 square meters and currently has about 1,400 employees.
Jidu Automobile said that relying on the complete and complete new energy and smart car market, supply chain, industrial cluster and talent reserve in the Yangtze River Delta region, Jidu Shanghai headquarters will focus on the design, research and development and sales of automotive robot products; at the same time, Jidu Beijing headquarters Mainly focus on the application development of intelligent driving, intelligent cockpit and other in-vehicle software and intelligent networked systems.
Robin Li, chairman and CEO of Baidu, said at the conference: “For smart cars, our judgment is that electrification is the midfield, and intelligence is the end game.” ”, it fully inherits the core capabilities of Baidu Apollo, and re-integrates and validates it. In terms of autonomous driving technology, it will lead the Tesla generation.
On the track of smart electric vehicles, new car-making forces have temporarily come out on top. Traditional car companies such as Volkswagen and BYD are catching up. As far as the Chinese market is concerned, car companies including Changan and GAC Aian are also catching up with the new forces in car manufacturing and becoming the protagonists of the smart electric vehicle track. The fate of tech giants makes the war even more uncertain. Compared with Weilai, Ideal and Xiaopeng Motors, Huawei, Apple, Xiaomi, and Baidu are considered to be real technology giants. Huawei has a complete smart electric vehicle ecological chain technology, and Baidu’s autonomous driving research and development has been implemented for 9 years. It is generally believed in the industry that the third stage of the game of smart electric vehicles will start in 2023 and 2024, when Jidu and Xiaomi start mass production and delivery.
