LHAASO observes highest-energy gamma-ray burst to date

High Energy Physics writes : “The highest-energy gamma-ray burst so far was triggered by satellite observations of GRB 221009A, and was simultaneously detected by LHAASO-WCDA and LHAASO+KM2A. The detection energy of LHAASO-WCDA was higher than 500 GeV, and the center was located at the right ascension. 288.3 degrees, 19.7 degrees declination, more than 100-fold significance was observed, and LHAASO-KM2A was also observed to be more than 10-fold significant, in which the energy of the highest photon reached 18 TeV. This is the first time that it has been detected from GRB above 10 TeV photons. LHAASO is a versatile experiment for ultra-high-energy gamma-ray astronomy.”
