Matrix fixes end-to-end encryption vulnerability

The developers of the Matrix message protocol have released an update that fixes the end-to-end encryption vulnerability . Matrix is an end-to-end encrypted and decentralized instant messaging system. It does not have a central server and communicates with other platforms through bridges. Its ecosystem consists of fully interoperable open source and private IM collaboration clients and servers, most notably Element supporting mobile and desktop systems. Matrix co-founder and project lead, Element CEO and CTO Matthew Hodgson said the entire ecosystem has about 69 million accounts spread across 10,000 servers, with about 2.5 million monthly active users using the Matrix.org server. Mozilla, KDE, the French and German governments, etc. have built their internal IM systems on the basis of Matrix. Hodgson said there is no indication that the newly disclosed vulnerability has been actively exploited.
