Melbourne’s anti-graffiti QR code is graffitied

A series of anti-graffiti QR codes were posted around Melbourne’s CBD, some of which were replaced as part of a documentary discussing hip-hop culture. This documentary discusses graffiti in hip-hop culture. Mayor Sally Capp said she believed the number of QR codes compromised was significant and expressed frustration at the hacking of QR codes. The mayor said initial discussions had been held with the Victorian police to use CCTV cameras to catch graffiti criminals, noting that the city had cleared more than 150,000 square meters of graffiti in 2022 and would continue efforts to remove graffiti this year. The mayor doesn’t think the move will lead to more graffiti, but more of a PR attempt by vandals.
