Pinwan, August 7th, according to Jiemian News, citing Reuters, a court document shows that Facebook parent company Meta Platforms has agreed to delay the completion of the acquisition of Within Unlimited. The latter’s products include fitness app Supernatural.

In July, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit seeking to block the deal and asked a judge in federal court in San Francisco to issue a temporary restraining order blocking the acquisition.

In joint court filings dated Aug. 4, Meta reportedly agreed not to close the deal until the end of 2022, or the first business day after a judge decides whether the case can go ahead.

The FTC refers to Meta, a “global tech giant” that owns popular apps including Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, and says its “campaign to conquer virtual reality” began in 2014, when it bought the maker of virtual reality headsets Oculus.

In October 2021, Meta agreed to acquire Within for an undisclosed amount. In the FTC filing, Meta said the FTC’s case was “based on ideology and speculation, not evidence.”
