The FTC filed a lawsuit earlier this month seeking to block Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The FTC believes the deal could potentially harm consumers and competition in the gaming industry. The FTC’s complaint cited Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media, in 2020. Microsoft responded that the ZeniMax acquisition had nothing to do with the current deal, and it confirmed that three of Bethesda’s upcoming titles will be PC and Xbox exclusives. The role-playing game “Starfield” with a space background and the action game “Redfall” with a vampire background have been confirmed as exclusive, and the third game may be “The Elder Scrolls 6”. In a statement, Microsoft denied that it would make its games PC and Xbox exclusives after acquiring Activision Blizzard, saying that giving up a platform (Sony PS) with millions of players would not make financial sense. Both Sony and Microsoft have their own first-party studios. Sony has 19 studios, Microsoft has 23, and Activision Blizzard has 15 studios. This deal will greatly expand Microsoft’s first-party lineup.
