Mozilla reiterates that it will continue to support the WebRequest API

Google has changed Chrome’s extension system in the name of improving security and performance. The new system, called Manifest V3, will limit the functionality of the WebRequest API and replace it with declarativeNetRequest. Ad-blocking extensions such as uBlock Origin will be affected because they use WebRequest to block requests for ads before they are downloaded. From next year, extensions based on the Chromium browser will have to use Manifest V3. Mozilla says it will also support Manifest V3, but will continue to support APIs restricted by Manifest V3. It reiterated last week that it will continue to support Manifest v2’s WebRequest API.
