Musk plans to hike Twitter subscriptions to $8 a month

Elon Musk said on Twitter that he was considering raising the subscription fee to $8 a month from $5 a month. He initially said he was considering going up to $20 a month and requiring certified users to buy a subscription, a message that sparked an immediate backlash, with certified users and celebrities such as author Stephen King rejecting it. Musk said the subscription service would help reduce Twitter’s reliance on advertising. This week, two major ad companies advised their clients to temporarily stop advertising on Twitter, adding to the urgency for Musk to find other sources of income. It is not known how many customers the Twitter Blue subscription service has.
