Elon Musk’s personal Twitter account and @ElonJet, the bot account he ran to track the movements of Elon Musk’s private jets, were both blocked around the same time, and Musk formally filed a lawsuit against him. Musk claimed his son’s car was being followed, and the stalker even blocked the car and climbed on the hood. He announced that Twitter would ban all accounts that reveal a person’s real-time location on the grounds of “immediate personal safety risk.” Jack Sweeney ran dozens of bot accounts that posted the location of celebrity planes based on public information, all of which were banned. Sweeney’s robot is powered by ADS-B, a system required for aircraft flying in the US and EU. With ADS-B, an aircraft uses GPS and its onboard sensors to calculate and periodically broadcast its position, altitude and speed, which can be heard by anyone with the appropriate receiver.
