My sons were excited to show me using Microsoft’s Bing Image Creator feature. They say they stumbled across the feature on the Tools vertical bar on the Edge browser. Microsoft Bing has Give Me and the “Image Creator” that lets you describe what you want to draw.
Prompt Engineering is a concept in artificial intelligence (AI), especially in natural language processing (NLP). In hint engineering, descriptions of tasks the AI should accomplish are embedded in the input, e.g. as questions, rather than given implicitly. Hint engineering typically works by converting one or more tasks into a hint-based dataset and using so-called “hint-based learning” or just “hint learning” to train a language model.
Hint engineering is a comprehensive process that covers the entire cycle of interaction between humans and AI. It involves the deliberate and systematic design and refinement of cues and underlying data structures to manipulate AI systems toward achieving specific and desired outputs.
With ChatGPT (ChatGPT-3.5, ChatCPT-4 and even ChatGPT-5) becoming a hot topic, the demand for “hint engineering” is growing day by day. AI has evolved and we need to be able to give AI specific tasks, precise requirements (in place) so that it can do it. Many functions/roles require the skill of “hint engineering”.
Regardless of the job function, many people can become tip engineers in their career path. For example, software engineers need to have special skills in “hint engineering”, for example, Bing search engine with ChatGPT can replace StackOverflow. ChatGPT can also generate boilerplate code to help reduce development effort.
Now we may not need to learn how to solve complex tasks in Excel spreadsheets , because this can be done by talking to ChatGPT included in Microsoft 365. Also, we can ask AI to create a professional PPT (Powerpoint slideshow) in seconds with a sentence or two. All of these require the “Prompt Engineer” skill.
