IT House News on December 19, according to reports, Apple plans to release new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models equipped with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips “early next year.” The laptops were originally expected to launch this year, but are said to be facing delays internally.
Aside from an upgraded chip and possibly faster memory, no major changes are expected in the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
IT Home has learned that the current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, released in October 2021, feature a new design with a notch on the display and a restoration of the HDMI port, MagSafe and SD card reader. Mac redesigns tend to be years apart, so a mere spec bump in the 2023 model makes sense.
Gurman also revealed that a new iMac with the M3 chip “could launch as early as late 2023,” but didn’t share any further details. The current iMac launches in April 2021 with the M1 chip and a slim color design, and Gurman previously said Apple plans to skip releasing an iMac with the M2 chip. He added that Apple remains interested in a new iMac Pro with Apple chips, but it faces delays internally.
Apple is also continuing to test new Mac mini models with the M2 and M2 Pro chips, according to Gurman, but he did not share a time frame for the launch.
