Established in October 2016, Routronac is a company dedicated to the production of nanofiber separators for new energy energy storage devices. The company’s nanofiber separator products are mainly used in supercapacitor batteries, sodium-ion batteries, energy storage lithium batteries, semi/all-solid-state batteries and other fields. At present, the R&D and production team is close to 50 people.

Since the beginning of this year, the price of upstream raw materials for lithium batteries has remained high, and the cost of lithium batteries has risen accordingly. New types of energy storage such as sodium-ion batteries and solid-state batteries have also attracted a lot of attention, and related industrial chains have ushered in a wave of development opportunities.

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology publicly solicited the “Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of the Energy Electronics Industry (Draft for Comment)”, which also proposed the development of new energy storage devices such as sodium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, and supercapacitors.

According to Xie Ming, founder of Routronac, although the lithium battery separator market is relatively mature, it is not 100% compatible with the separators required for new energy storage devices such as supercapacitors and sodium ions. These new energy storage devices require new separators. materials to meet indicators such as low cost, long life, safety and wide temperature range.

“The nanofiber separator adopts a special papermaking process, and different types of nanofibers are overlapped with each other to form a porous film; the lithium battery separator is more like a plastic, which is made by dry stretching or wet phase separation. Diaphragm. These are two completely different technical paths.” Xie Ming introduced.

Routronac said that its main nanofiber separator has advantages in lyophilicity, liquid retention and thermal stability, and can well meet the requirements of new energy storage devices such as supercapacitors and sodium-ion batteries.

Take the supercapacitor diaphragm as an example. Previously, the supercapacitor diaphragms were all imported from Japan, and the diaphragms of Routronics mainly focus on import substitution. Compared with foreign technologies, RouChuang’s nanofiber membrane breaks through the technical problems of multi-dimensional and high-throughput preparation of nanofiber materials, composite molding of micro-nanofibers, and controllable regulation of the microstructure of high-porosity membranes. At present, supercapacitors are widely used in military aerospace, rail transit, wind power, hybrid vehicles and new energy storage in zero-carbon factories.

The supercapacitor diaphragm business is the most important business of Routron Nanotech at present, accounting for about 60% of the total revenue. The company has become a qualified supplier of supercapacitor battery companies such as Ningbo CRRC, Jinzhao Times, Jianghai Co., Ltd., and Zhongtian Technology.

It is understood that the monthly production line of Routronics is about 300,000 square meters, which is basically at full production. Xie Ming said that starting from September this year, the company will start to build a new production line of 30 million square meters, which is expected to be put into operation in July 2023; it is expected to start construction of a 100 million square meter separator production line in 2024, and strive to make the cost equal to that of lithium battery separators. even lower.

Starting from the supercapacitor diaphragm market, Routronac also plans to further expand the market to the fields of energy storage batteries and sodium-ion batteries. In the field of sodium-ion batteries, Routronics is conducting sodium-ion battery separator tests with a number of battery companies, and it is expected to be introduced in the next year or so.

In addition, Routronac also cooperates with Japanese sulfide electrolytes and domestic polymer lithium ion conductor expert teams to invest in research and development of solid-liquid hybrid or all-solid-state battery separators. In the future, it will focus on automotive power with relatively high energy density and safety requirements. battery market.
