All counties and cities use the “commuting monthly pass” to promote transportation monthly passes, emphasizing the savings in transportation costs for medium and long-distance travel. When most people think of monthly tickets, they also think of medium and long-term travel. But if you look at the frequency of movement, frequent daily short-distance movement can better demonstrate the value of the monthly pass. Especially the Kaohsiung Pass Monthly Pass, which costs only 399 yuan.
Everyone is the same, most of the movement distance is not long. A few hundred meters, the shortest and the most frequent: buy drinks at a convenience store or beverage store near your home or company, pack lunch at a convenience store, send a letter at the post office, collect money at the bank, take out the garbage at night, and so on.
It’s about two or three kilometers or a little longer, and there may be times a week where you want to go for errands, shopping, shopping, watching movies or having dinner. It is much less if it is more than five kilometers, and even less if it is more than ten kilometers. In short, the shorter the distance, the higher the frequency; the longer the distance, the lower the frequency.
Short-distance trips are actually covered by monthly tickets, and they are well guarded. For example, I want to go to the bank to collect money, and the journey is one kilometer. I just ride YouBike, park the car at the door, and ride back after receiving the money. Fifteen minutes and done. A few days ago, I went to a restaurant about one kilometer away from my home to eat, and I also rode YouBike.
You might say, riding a motorcycle is fine too. That’s right, it’s actually a lot like riding a motorcycle. But have you ever thought that you will not always have a car to ride, but there are public bicycles everywhere in the city, and you can use this mode to travel anywhere and anytime. Moreover, the first 30 minutes of riding an electric vehicle with a monthly pass is free, so there is no problem with longer distances and faster speeds.
I don’t need to say much about the transfer value of public bicycles. The MRT station, LRT station or bus station is a bit far away, so take a ride to and from it. And there are already transfer discounts. For example, I often run to Fengshan Station, buy sesame seed cakes at the biscuit shop in front of the station, and ride a YouBike 600 meters to the MRT station for a ride.
For mileage-based transportation, monthly tickets are more advantageous in short distances. For example, the fare within 5 kilometers of Kaohsiung MRT is 20 yuan (17 yuan for electronic tickets). It costs 17 yuan to take four stops from Boulder Island Station to Kaixuan Station, and 17 yuan to take one stop to Central Park Station. The same is true for the 12 yuan ticket for a section within 8 kilometers of the bus. It’s not worth it to only take one or two stops.
But when you have a monthly pass, these are not a problem. If the location of the station happens to meet your mobility needs, and the frequency can match, you can just take one stop.
My own personal experience. During commuting hours, take the MRT out of Fengshan Station, and there is no YouBike left in front of the station. There is actually one car left when I go out of the gate to see the app, but it has already been borrowed when I walked outside the station. Make a decisive decision and then enter the station and take a stop to Dadong Station to borrow a car. If you don’t have a monthly pass, you will have to pay an extra 17 yuan to take this station. It happened that there were a lot of trains during the commuting period. When I returned to the platform, the next train came. And the place I’m going to rides from these two stations is about the same distance.
Another example is light rail. Streetcars are inherently good for getting on and off at any time. But if you don’t have a monthly pass, you have to pay another 10 yuan to get off and get on again. Now that you have a monthly pass, you can really play the value of the streetcar. Get on the bus when it comes, and get off when you think of something or see something interesting after taking one or two stops. Up and down, very free.
Even if commuting is not considered, the monthly pass of 399 yuan can still create value for you. For these trivial short-distance movements in daily work and life, the monthly pass not only helps, but also allows you to move more freely. It is more free than riding a motorcycle or driving a car by yourself.
Everyone needs this monthly pass.
