The same period of history can be told well or poorly. The book “The Dream Palace of the Arabs” is not very good in my opinion.
This book is mainly developed from the perspective of intellectuals. The plight of intellectuals is also the plight of Arabs-the inner desire to unite and reshape the glory. The reality is that it is divided and struggles are frequent. Without a certain level of literary literacy and Arabic historical background, I can’t understand what this book is talking about and what it wants to express. After reading most of it, I have forgotten the phrase “where is the road to modernization in the Arab world?” said in the introduction. Old wine in new bottles, but also very mixed. Impression of Ideal Chinese Translation Series – 1 point.
Under this land, the road to peace must be full of hardships, and it is not a problem that can be solved by a few leaders and a few generations. The book’s final chapter, “Peace Without Applause,” exemplifies the contradictions Arabs face: even after years of war, millions of people lost their lives and their homes, even if a leader finally pushes The signing of the peace agreement. However, what is still obtained is the dissatisfaction of a large number of people in the country, especially the dissatisfaction of the intellectual class. This kind of peace hurts their family and country feelings. Under this feeling, they are angry and they protest. It seems that the lives of soldiers and civilians are at stake. The humiliation they say is nothing in the face of it.
Under such circumstances, the Arab world does not seem to have emerged a very courageous leader, who is pragmatic enough to grasp the main points and does not seek once and for all. It is better to learn from Deng Xiaoping: As for controversial issues, we might as well put them aside for now. We are not smart enough, and future generations may be smarter than us and be able to solve problems that we cannot solve now.
First seek survival, then seek development, and then seek reunification.
