“Life in the Ocean” is a novel written by Mai Jia, a contemporary Chinese writer and winner of the Mao Dun Literature Award. It was first published in April 2019. This book revolves around a “colonel in their village who carries many mysteries.

The whole reading process, in addition to the feeling of reading suspense novels, also satisfies the irresistible “desire for voyeurism” that everyone can’t resist. Whether the “colonel” is “eunuch” or not, and the suspense of what word he uses has always attracted readers.

The experience of the protagonist in the novel is a bit like the protagonist Zheng Yaoxian in the famous spy war-themed TV series “Kite” played by Liu Yunlong in the early years. I always thought that “Kite” and “Life in the Sea” were written by Mai Jia, but I found out after looking up the information I confuse Mai Jia’s other spy novel “The Wind” with “Kite”.

Fortunately, I have watched these two film and television works. To be honest, “Kite” is much better than “The Wind”. This is a digression.

Some people commented that “Kite” is “the spy war version of “To Live”, and this “Life in the Sea” is the Zhejiang rural version of “To Live”.

I am ashamed to say that I have read a lot of literary and artistic works about the hardships and sufferings of the heroes during the Anti-Japanese War, such as the aforementioned “To Live”, as well as the original versions of “Farewell My Concubine”, “Kite”, and “Bright Sword”. Novels, etc., slowly facing that crazy and magic era, I am a little aesthetic tired, I know this is wrong, “never forget the past, the teacher of the future , forgetting the past experience and lessons is the future Indulgence, if you can’t keep vigilant for a long time, the magical era in the past will probably reappear, so we still have to keep the “alarm bell ringing”.
