Routine

After not going to work, the deeper feeling is that Routine is too important (I haven’t formed Routine yet, and I am trying to improve it). Routine can be understood as a rhythm, doing specific things at a specific time, such as getting up around 8 o’clock every day, and working for 3 hours after breakfast. From a programming point of view, it is like requesting a block of memory to perform a task.

Why is it important? Because without this Routine, it is easy to be attracted by all kinds of attention black hole apps. Not only will the time run out, but also the ability of your Deep Work will be weakened, and you will not be able to enjoy the immersion and satisfaction brought by Flow.

It is really difficult to form a Routine. You have to force yourself to put down your phone, don’t open the game, don’t “swipe for a while”, and bite the bullet to do something that is more uninteresting in comparison. The result may be insufficient completion, such as just opening the IDE, All kinds of thoughts came up (especially when you didn’t enter the state at the beginning), and it was easy to be dragged away by one of them. After being dragged a few times, there was no progress in the task, and the time was used up. Or get stuck too deep. For example, when you spend the night reading a book, you may just come across a book with the right taste. If you don’t pay attention, it will be early in the morning, and then you will sleep until noon. The task scheduled in the morning will be over, and the chain reaction will be As expected.

So to keep the Routine you need to have some strategies, such as:

  • Arrange the tasks to be done the next day on the night before, which are tasks that can and should be completed, otherwise the next day is likely to start with “brush” or “play”
  • Practice meditation and learn to live with the thoughts in your mind
  • Lock other smart devices
  • Have a dog?

This must be a painful process, especially at the beginning, but I believe that if I persevere, I will be grateful for this perseverance one year later.
