RTX 4090 users posted photos on social media reporting that the graphics card’s 16-pin power connector (ie 12VHPWR) burned out. One user’s graphics card caught fire and smoke, and another found the connector melted after the graphics card died. Before the RTX 4090 was released, Nvidia itself concluded after testing different implementations of the 12VHPWR connector that severe bending and more than 40 connection cycles could cause hot spots and, in some cases, even melt the cable. It is not known whether the affected graphics card is caused by a bending problem.
