Safeguarding production safety, Dahua’s “problem-solving ideas”

In May 1980, in order to enhance the awareness of production safety, my country held the “National Safety Month” activity for the first time.

In the same month, the government, enterprises and other entities began to publicize safety production knowledge through accident warning education and emergency plan drills.

Subsequently, in 2001, ten departments including the State Economic Commission and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions officially designated June each year as the month of safe production.

Today, it has been 21 years since the production safety month.

In the past 21 years, with the improvement of the enterprise safety management system and publicity, workers’ awareness of safety in production has been greatly improved, and the incidence of safety production accidents has been effectively curbed.

According to data from the Ministry of Emergency Management, in 2021, the total number of production safety accidents in the country will drop by 9% year-on-year.

With the development and implementation of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and AIoT, the use of advanced technologies to analyze the causes of accidents to prevent or even avoid accidents has become another important means of safeguarding safety.

In a recent conversation with Nuggets, Zhang Weichang, director of smart manufacturing solutions of Dahua, and Ren Qun, director of power solutions, shared Dahua’s insights and capabilities in using technology to protect safe production.

1. Technology, the missing link in safety management

In the past, the work of enterprises in safety production mainly focused on two aspects:

One is to incorporate safety into the production process from management through system design; the other is to enhance the safety awareness and operational norms of front-line workers through publicity and education to reduce accidents.

These two methods have become an indispensable part of modern enterprise safety production management, but due to the complexity, uniqueness and uncertainty of production scenarios, they still face great challenges in practical application.

Protecting production safety with advanced technology can add a new “safety belt” to safe production through external forces.

To give a simple example: before the introduction of technology, the safety of workers depends more on self-consciousness, such as taking protective measures and standardizing operations. After the introduction of technology, the corresponding equipment will directly remind workers of illegal operations, as well as hidden danger alarms, etc., to protect safety in a brand-new way.

Today, more and more companies are beginning to introduce technology products to ensure safe and efficient production, and this part of the demand happens to be the blue ocean market for technology companies.

2. Scenario + cost, two major problems for technology companies

With the market, technology has the possibility of landing.

However, the implementation of technology is not easy, and there are two major obstacles: scenarios and costs.

Scenario problems can be understood from three dimensions: different industries, different companies in the same industry, and different production lines of the same company have different technical requirements.

Costs and scenarios have always been symbiotic. In the face of fragmented scenarios, if technology companies can only customize and cannot reuse, it will inevitably lead to high development costs. These costs will be transmitted to the manufacturing enterprises, which will also affect the latter’s performance. Willingness to pay.

And, for many manufacturing companies, another cost requirement is to avoid duplication of construction as much as possible, that is, how to make full use of the existing infrastructure so as not to cause waste.

Therefore, what technology companies face is not a single technology implementation problem, but how to reduce R&D costs, make products form an effective business model, and achieve cost reduction and efficiency for enterprises.

Dahua’s solution to this problem is divided into two layers:

  • Cooperation level

Starting from the actual situation of the enterprise, taking into account factors such as budget and site conditions, first solve local pain points, and then carry out the transformation in layers and stages.

  • product and solution level

Relying on the enterprise’s digital intelligence base, Dahua has developed four major technical capabilities: first, to build a 4-layer software component system to achieve high reuse; second, to provide a variety of tools to meet the construction of scene applications, such as zero-code tools; third For different scenarios in the industry, it has created a giant AI development platform to lower the threshold for algorithm development; fourth, it provides four-layer open capabilities for IoT, AI, data, and business.

On the basis of the four major technical capabilities, Dahua has formed a complete system of software and hardware products.

In terms of hardware products, the product format covers cameras, air drives and other forms. At the beginning of the design, different configuration requirements are considered and industry standard protocols are supported; software products are modular, and enterprises can choose according to actual needs.

In addition, Dahua’s solution took into account the compatibility of the overall system in the early design. For the company’s original third-party products, it can also achieve rapid docking and customized development.

3. N+1, solve the pain point of manufacturing safety

At present, Dahua has mainly formed an “N+1” solution in terms of production safety.

“N” represents the product chain, including industrial event monitoring equipment, combustible gas analysis cameras, smart air conditioners, etc. These products can be loaded with scene-based AI algorithms to identify hazards and give timely alarms.

For example, in addition to inheriting the basic functions of current, voltage and ignition monitoring, the smart air switch can also realize intelligent data analysis and judge abnormal electricity consumption.

“1” refers to the comprehensive safety operation platform, which has opened up the enterprise’s security, fire protection, emergency and other systems, and has achieved rapid connection with front-end products.

The solution can help enterprises to realize the integration of safety operations, and build a new safety production management model of pre-prevention, in-process control, and post-event analysis. It has been applied to petrochemical, steel, coal, electric power and other industrial fields.

Ren Qun said that Dahua has launched targeted products and solutions for different industries and different scenarios, eliminating all kinds of unsafe factors in the bud, safeguarding the safety of production operations, and empowering enterprises to digitalize and improve safety through AI capabilities. management effectiveness.

In the petrochemical industry, enterprises can combine the Dahua Video IoT technology with the original DCS system to compare the data collected by AI Video IoT with the DCS data, and assist production personnel to complete the inspection work.

In the steel industry, affected by the process, high-temperature and high-brightness scenes are very common. It is difficult for ordinary cameras to see the image clearly and operate for a long time. The traditional solution is to let manual review, which has potential safety hazards. In response to this pain point, Dahua has launched a blue-ray camera, which solves the problem of inability to see images in high-light scenes through hardware customization and image optimization.

Its products such as high temperature resistance self-cooling integrated machine, air-cooled cooling integrated machine and other products can meet the scene application of different temperatures in the steel industry. In addition, during the transportation of production equipment, when the source of danger is close to the operator, the device will actively give an early warning to remind the staff to pay attention to safety.

The coal industry is even more special, involving two scenarios above and below the well.

In the fully mechanized mining face of underground mines, the traditional supervision mode relies on a large number of sensing devices for image collection and manual real-time monitoring. Dahua uses visual fusion splicing technology + distortion correction algorithm to change the traditional high-density and small scene supervision, and adds AI intelligent analysis to automatically detect and give early warning to the illegal behavior of operators in fully mechanized mining face.

In the open-pit mining area, Dahua uses the method of “solar power generation + wireless bridge + transfer platform” to identify and warn the hidden safety hazards in the mining area and the irregular operation of the operators, and at the same time make the video supervision of the mining area more efficient. .

In the power industry, there is often strong electromagnetic field interference, and monitoring equipment is easily affected, resulting in problems such as imaging and control abnormalities. To this end, Dahua has launched products with high-level EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) capabilities to ensure normal use.

“We hope to launch products and solutions that meet the application of sub-scenario fields through the technical accumulation in the industry, combined with the experience and understanding in the energy and other industries, to help the safety management of production enterprises.” Ren Qun said.

4. Taking security as the core, breaking through boundaries

With the development of the industry, the connotation of safe production is also changing. From the single personnel safety in the early stage, it has expanded to multiple aspects such as equipment, environment, and public safety. From this, the needs of enterprises for different scenarios and different dimensions of safety have been derived.

Zhang Weichang said: “Dahua continues to work hard on the big scene of security, and hopes to use its years of accumulation and precipitation in the video field to give more meaning to security through AIoT, software platforms and other capabilities.”

For example, in equipment safety, for many manufacturing enterprises, once the equipment fails, it cannot be solved immediately, and it is easy to cause the production line to be put on hold, thereby affecting the production capacity.

Dahua’s solution collects the equipment status through various IoT means, and uses AI technology to analyze the data of the samples, compare it with the historical data of the equipment, and give early warning of possible equipment problems; Time to find the fault point, repair the equipment, and keep the production line running normally.

In terms of environmental safety, for various unstable and dangerous factors, Dahua’s solutions can detect and remind potential safety hazards by controlling and disposing of areas with various hazard sources, as well as supervising the operation process, so as to ensure environmental safety. .

It can be said that on the core issue of security, Dahua has formed full-stack products and solutions to meet various security needs of enterprises and provide full-link empowerment.

But this is not the limit of Dahua’s capabilities.

In addition to security, Dahua also uses video, artificial intelligence and other technologies to reduce costs and increase efficiency for enterprises, and empower traditional enterprises to digitally transform in production and operation from multiple dimensions.

“Security and intelligence are the focus of Dahua’s efforts. At the same time, Dahua also decouples other needs of enterprises, and helps traditional manufacturing enterprises to digitally transform on the basis of ensuring safe production.”

“This is our goal.” Zhang Weichang said. Leifeng Network Leifeng Network
