Samsung issued an announcement Friday confirming that some U.S. user information was stolen in a cyberattack in July. Samsung said it detected in late July that an unauthorized third party had stolen information from its U.S. systems. Around August 4 it determined that some customer information was accessed. Samsung said customers’ Social Security numbers or credit and debit card numbers were not compromised, and attackers may have accessed customer names, contact and demographic information, dates of birth and product registration information. Samsung said it was enhancing system security and coordinating investigations with law enforcement.
