According to news from the Korean financial industry on the 12th, Samsung Electronics will release its environmental management strategy this week, announce its 2050 carbon neutrality goal and announce its participation in the RE100 environmental protection initiative. Samsung Electronics has already achieved RE100 targets in the U.S., Europe and China in 2020, and last year raised the proportion of renewable energy use at its plants in Brazil and Mexico to 94% and 71%, respectively. However, among the four major domestic groups, only Samsung has not announced its participation in the RE100 initiative due to the incomplete infrastructure related to renewable energy in China. Analysts believe that Samsung Electronics plans to announce its participation in RE100 because carbon neutrality and environmental, social and governance (ESG) business models have become a global trend, and global financial companies and institutional investors have been asking it to expand the use of renewable energy and join RE100 . It is reported that in order to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, Samsung Electronics will improve the energy efficiency of its main products such as TVs, refrigerators, and mobile terminals, and develop low-consumption and high-efficiency semiconductors.
