According to ET News, Samsung will showcase the world’s first foldable + slideable OLED panel at the CES 2023 expo.
It is reported that Samsung calls this panel a hybrid panel, which can support both folding and sliding. The panel expands the screen size by sliding after unfolding.
When the panel is fully folded, it measures 8 inches diagonally. When it is unfolded, there are 10 inches. And when the panel is fully extended and slid open, it measures 12.4 inches.
In terms of application, the new panel can be used to change from smartphones to tablets and laptops according to the needs of users. It is unclear when Samsung Display will start mass production of such screens.
However, the new device requires extremely advanced hinges and metal plates to hold the display, which can also be very expensive.
While Samsung’s OLED screens are already used in many smartwatches, fitness bands, smartphones and tablets, the new panel is expected to find use in laptops, PC monitors and automotive displays.
