Some thoughts on telecommuting

I have been working remotely for a while, let me briefly talk about some feelings during the period.

Have more time to exercise . The biggest change I have made in the past month or so is the increase in exercise time. I have exercise records three or four times a week, or play basketball or run outdoors. This is of course benefited from the free evening time, and also benefited from having friends who exercise together. Remembering that I was in Beijing before, it was already very late when I got home from get off work at night, and I basically didn’t want to do anything except take a shower and lie on the bed immediately. If you are at home, it has almost become the norm to eat more than seven o’clock, digest food for more than an hour, and then go out for an hour of exercise.

Less communication, more focused thinking , but sometimes more fatigue. Different from sitting on duty, telecommuting is isolated from others, which indirectly reduces the interruption of others, and allows you to focus more on the things at hand. The advantage is that you can efficiently deal with some problems that need to be thought about. The disadvantage is that it is easy to ignore the time and sit for several hours at a time, which is not good for your health. In contrast, when I was in the company, I rarely had a long period of focused time, and communication, meetings and other matters were often interspersed in the middle. It is also because of this that you can fish during the period. Although the overall working hours are long, you will not feel too tired. On the contrary, sometimes you will be tired at home.

Use time more efficiently , time is your own. Telecommuting does not necessarily require commuting to and from get off work on time. It only needs to complete the tasks and do a good job in communication and coordination. It is also possible to compress the original eight-hour work into two hours. You don’t have to look at people’s faces, and you don’t have to wait until you get off work inefficiently, and then pretend to please the boss and work overtime.

Very idle, but also very busy . Although telecommuting will save a lot of time, it is often quickly filled by other things. I used to work outside, the company and my home were on the same line, I would go to the company by car when I woke up, I would have a meal immediately, and I would go home after get off work if I had nothing to do. The day was so monotonous and orderly. However, if you are at home, sometimes you have to cook, and sometimes you have to go out to help, which is irregular and disorderly. I’ve even ditched the habit of listening to podcasts without the boredom of my commute.

Generally speaking, telecommuting is quite suitable for me except that I have less money, but occasionally I want to go back to the company to work. After all, if this continues, I will lose my ability to talk to others.
