Sony is preparing to completely ditch plastic packaging. The plan is set to start in 2023, starting with small products such as smartphones for the first time, and plastic packaging will gradually be replaced by materials such as cardboard boxes and bamboo. Large-scale products such as Sony TVs will also abandon plastic packaging. At present, TVs and other products use foam plastic to prevent bumps. Among Japan’s major electronics manufacturers, Sony is the first company to propose a complete abandonment of plastic packaging. In addition to packaging, Sony is also preparing to use QR codes to reduce instructions.
