Stack Overflow released its annual developer survey and found that 74% of developers are actively looking for new jobs or are open to new job opportunities. The highest proportion of active job seekers are 20-24 year olds (27%), 25-34 year olds 21%, 35-44 year olds 17%, 45-54 year olds only 12%. The percentage of developers looking for a new job increased by 9% year-over-year. Among respondents, getting a higher salary was the biggest motivation for changing jobs. The biggest factors affecting changing jobs are job flexibility (58%), salary (54%) and learning opportunities (54%). Developers hope to choose to work from home, and 46% said they are required to start/end at a fixed time work, and 44% cite being required to work in an office as the biggest disadvantage of their current position. According to StackOverflow CEO Prashanth Chandrasekar, regardless of the economic situation, salary is an important factor, but it is not everything.
