Called this morning to cancel my Amex Platinum Card (Amex, American Express).
TLDR; I started to use crypto/wirex/ledger/wise last year, and almost no amex is used. The only way to use amex is apple icloud subscription, and some restaurants can scan the QR code on the table to order food directly with Apple Pay.
The main reasons are as follows:
- In the past 12 months, I have not used the American Express card very much, except for a few times when it is more convenient to use Apple Pay: for example, when I go to some restaurants, I can order directly on my mobile phone (QR code or mobile APP) , and then mobile payment with Apple Wallet (Apple Pay) is very convenient. Several times, I ordered and paid directly on my mobile phone when I went to David Lloyds to take a bath.
- There are not many stores or restaurants that accept American Express cards, and large supermarkets such as Tesco support them. Amex can be bound with paypal, and some online shopping does not support amex but can support paypal, so you can just add a package and use it
- The ones I mainly use now are: Wirex , Crypto.com and Crypto Ledger .
- American Express Amex charges a membership fee of £25 per year, which will be deducted in your membership anniversary month (once in previous years, you can exchange coupons or exchange items in the internal store). Cashback (Rebate) will be deducted from the credit card statement. Over the past 12 months my cashback amount was £6, which translates to £600 spent. Once the card is cancelled, these cashbacks will also be cancelled.
- Another benefit that I rarely use is the cashback offer. There are many cashback activities on the Amex mobile APP, but they have to be activated manually. I often forget to click and don’t use it very much.
Anyway, thanks to Amex for the company of these 8 years, I joined in 2015 when I just moved to Cambridge .
